Lance Stroll has produced some great moments in his Formula 1 career, so F1 Oversteer has compiled some of his best moments on track including his first pole position and podium.

The Canadian has been on the Grand Prix grid since the 2017 season having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy during his years in junior formulas. Since being in F1, Lance Stroll has managed to achieve a few feats that some drivers wish they could have to their name.

Williams brought Stroll onto the grid in 2017 before he joined Racing Point in 2018, following his father’s acquisition of Force India. That team are now known as Aston Martin, having rebranded in 2021.

With all that in mind, F1 Oversteer has taken a look back at the best moments from Stroll’s F1 career.

Where did Lance Stroll make his Formula 1 debut?

Stroll made his Formula 1 debut at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix for Williams, having qualified in P19 for the race due to an unscheduled gearbox change. Things did not improve in the race when Stroll retired after 40 laps due to a brake problem.

In fact, his first three races with Williams all ended in DNFs due to various mechanical issues. He would have to wait until the Russian Grand Prix before he managed to finish a race, then his home race in Canada, where he scored his first points by finishing in ninth.

Lance Stroll took his first Formula 1 pole at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix

Stroll’s first and so far only pole position in his F1 career came at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix around Istanbul Park, driving his Racing Point RP20.

Racing Point got into trouble early in the 2020 season for copying Mercedes, and Stroll taking pole at the Turkish GP seemed to vindicate what was being said about the team.

It was also the first time F1 had raced at Istanbul Park since 2011, with the track having been resurfaced. However, the resurfacing job appeared to make the track more slippery, which became even more treacherous when it rained.

Stroll managed to keep his car on the track and take pole from Max Verstappen by three-tenths of a second.

During the race, he would drop outside of the podium positions as strategy became difficult to call, but it was also the race in which Lewis Hamilton won his seventh world title after finishing first in the race.

Stroll would achieve his first podium finish relatively early in his Formula 1 career at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Stroll became the second-youngest driver to finish in the top three with his podium, although it would come in rather dramatic circumstances.

The Canadian qualified in P8 for the race but was promoted to third after a series of retirements and problems. Verstappen retired with an oil pressure problem, while Kimi Raikkonen and Sergio Perez also both retired after collisions.

Sebastian Vettel and Hamilton were both the leaders of the race, but after the pair made contact during a safety car period, the Ferrari driver was handed a time penalty. Hamilton would later be forced to pit due to a headrest issue, forcing him to drop down the order.

Stroll was promoted to P2 and had a 12-second advantage over Valtteri Bottas heading into the final laps. After holding him off, on the final lap Bottas got a run exiting the final corner and managed to take second on the line – the pair separated by 0.105s.

Stroll has gone on to produce some great drives in F1, notably at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, where he finished third.

Having qualified in P10, Stroll managed to stay out of trouble at the start of the race and work his way through the field. After a late VSC caused confusion for race leaders Mercedes, a fifth-placed Stroll was promoted to third while Perez was up to first and managed to win the race.

Another brilliant race for Stroll that earned him a podium was at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Known for being the race where Pierre Gasly sealed his first F1 win, Stroll managed to finish on the podium again for Racing Point, despite coming close to winning.

The Canadian made a mistake at the restart and dropped five places, but managed to retake third and seal the second podium in Stroll’s F1 career.
